People choose to follow (against their personal preference) for two reasons:

  1. Authority. “I’m happy to be a team player and follow orders.”
  2. Adoration. “I’m a fan of this person and so I am happy to compromise on my own goals.”

On both counts, the compromise is daring, creative and audacious. When we forgo our own goals for the dreams of another we are being optimistic. When this is reciprocated the impact is transformative.
